Electronics Charging Station

2009

As a primer project in a furniture design studio, we were asked to design a box. I chose use the project as means to solve a personal need. I designed a phone charging station.

The box is constructed from a single plank of dark walnut. In order to accommodate phone charger plugs, the internal cavity needed to be a minimum of 2½ deep. The overall height of the box is 5. To keep the charging station from appearing too vertical, I oriented the wood grain horizontally. I also routed horizontal lines into the façade and created a ½ reveal at the bottom to create a shadow line. The charging cord cutouts on the phone deck correspond to the design on the sides of the box, working both functionally and aesthetically.

The final product is a functional piece that declutters and enhances my counter space.
